The Brokerage tab in Combyne Copilot is where you go to view and track trades and hedged positions for your clients. Copilot’s brokerage features allows you to understand market exposure across your entire client base by viewing futures and options trades from multiple brokerage accounts all in one place.
You can use the Brokerage features to link paper trades to physical grain positions and keep track of your hedging strategies you’ve deployed to protect your clients’ physical bushels.
Trade Overview
Trade Table
Use the Brokerage tab to see all your trades presented so you can quickly view any created trades and filter by various trade properties. Above the trade table you can find options that allow you to quickly filter by year and individual clients.
The trade table can be further sorted by using the drop down filters to select different trade properties:
- Crop — Filter by trades that have been linked to particular physical commodities.
- Futures Month — Select one or more months to show associated trades.
- Status — Filter trades by closed, expired, or open states.
- Position & Type — Filter by both Long and Short positions and/or trade types like Futures, call Options, or put Options.
Trade Table Actions
You can use the trade table on the Brokerage tab to perform a number of actions by selecting trades with the check boxes, or by accessing a trade’s details page by selecting an individual trade.
If you select one or more trades using the trade table checkboxes, you can then perform the following actions:
Trade Details
The trade details page can be accessed by clicking on an individual trade on the trade table. The trade details page summarizes all properties and details entered when the trade was created, and allows you to perform trade-specific actions:
- Delete — You can delete a trade by selecting the three dot ‘𝌀’ menu and selecting Delete.
- Edit — Change optional trade properties, quantity, or price details. Only open trades can be edited. Once closed you cannot edit trade details.
- Manage Linked Items — Link, change, or remove [linked physical contracts] and [linked crop marketing profile].
- Exit Position — The Exit Position allows you to indicate that a trade has been closed. Copilot will ask you to select any existing trades that can act as the Offsetting Trade. Offsetting Trades are trades that take the opposite position, have the same futures month, and are the same or smaller quantity of the Initial Position. You can also input an Offsetting Trade on the spot. Copilot will then consider this trade the Initial Position to the Offsetting Trade, and link them together.
- Update Market Value — You can use this feature to add or update the market value for a trade.
- Add Notes — Use the Add Note button to add any notes regarding the trade. Notes can be added to trades even if the trade has been closed.
Adding Trades
Adding trades can be done from the navigation bar using the Add ‘+’ icon or from the Brokerage tab. When you begin to adding a trade you can choose between two trade types:
- Adding Futures
- Adding an Option
Creating either a futures or option trade in Copilot will help you keep track of which hedging strategies you’ve deployed to protect your clients’ specific physical bushels.
Manually Creating Trades
When creating a new trade manually you will need to complete the following steps:
- Select the Add Trade button on the Brokerage tab, or choose Futures or Option from the Add ‘+’ icon dropdown menu.
- Complete Trade Details section.
- Complete Price Details section.
- Select Save Trade.
Keep Track of Hedging Strategies
Linking Trades
All trades can be linked to crop marketing profiles and physical contracts.
- Physical Contracts — Trades can be linked to physical crop contracts as well. To link a physical contract to a trade you must first create a the trade. Once created, you can use the Trade Table Actions or Trade Details page to link the trade to a contract.
- Crop Marketing Profiles — Trades are automatically linked to the relevant crop marketing profiles if available, but can also be unlinked and/or reassigned to other crop profiles as needed.
Grouping Trades
Grouping trades to help keep track of hedging strategies can be done by using the trade table on the Brokerage tab:
- Use the checkboxes to select two or more trades.
- Select the Group Trades button.
- Add a descriptive label to make it easier to sort and find grouped trades.
Once grouped, trades can be collapsed or expanded to help with sorting information in the trade table. You can also make changes to grouped trades by selecting the Manage button and then one of following actions:
- Edit Group — Change the label name or adding and removing trades from the group.
- Link to Physical Contract — Select and save physical contracts to associate to trades.
- Change Crop Marketing Profile — Change or remove links to the crop marketing profile.
- Delete — Delete the group and all associated trades.
